This is my first homebrew so here goes.
Welcome the Gladiator, master of spectacle fighting, able to sway the crowd in any way he sees fit and skilled enough in martial combat to harness the magic that embers every fighters blood and blades.
At its core this a charisma based fighter who relies on outmanoeuvring their opponents and swaying onlookers to dishearten their enemies. When all else fails they can rely on powerful single use magical abilities.
3rd LVL | Rile Crowd |
After dropping an opponent to 0hp the Gladiator can use a bonus action to appease the crowd.
Make a charisma check if successful you may choose one of the following effects...
Ludum Gladiatorium
You can call out a single opponent and you have an advantage to all attack rolls towards this opponent.
Missio
The opponent must pass a charisma check equal to your gladiatorial standing (Spell DC) if they fail they must lay down their weapon and retreat.
Pollice Verso
The crowd must decide the fate of an opponent that you are facing.
If thumbs up then you have advantage on attacks towards the opponent however the final blow must be non lethal.
If successful in non lethally dropping the opponent gain a reputation point.
If thumbs down then the opponent gains disadvantage to any checks they must make while engaging the gladiator.
The opponent must be killed.
If you slay the opponent gain one reputation point.
If the terms of either condition are broken then you must make a save to stop the crowd from turning against you.
If this fails you lose a reputation point.
{ I am thinking maybe there are too many checks involved }
{ Also gladiatorial reputation is a concept I am stilly working on Please Standby}
7th LVL| Battle Magika |
Your tireless practice has caused you to awaken the magic dormant in the steel of your blades. Even when unarmed.
You can use your attack action to create an elemental weapon of your choice in your unarmed hand.
The weapon does 1d4 of the element chosen and dissipates at the end of the attack action.
The damage die increases at x,x and x level.
{ Not sure how I am going to handle sleep slots for this character as of yet}
10 LVL | Gladiatorial Manoeuvres |
Same concept as battle master manoeuvres, list to come.
{ Will likely use most battle master manoeuvres however would like to add in some dirty / entertaining fighting moves }
17LVL | Coup De GrĂ¢ce |
To be decided.
Highly likely this will be the capstone
{ I want it to be flashy, bloody and pants shittingly awesome}
{ Edit: I removed the levels gained for the abilities so that we can decide what would be appropriate to give at what level. Tweaks and changes will happen, if there is anything you want to input feel free, I don't want to accidentally make this character too overpowered.}
